A DU bushing is a self lubricating bushing, also called a dry running composite bushing. It is built in layers: a steel back for strength, a porous bronze layer, and a low friction running layer that holds the lubricant. Because the lubricant is built in, the bushing runs without oil or grease.
That makes DU bushings a good fit for pivots and joints that are hard to reach, for dirty environments, and for machines where you want less maintenance. They are compact, take heavy loads at low speed, and are widely used as a replacement for bronze bushings.
