Rod ends pair a spherical bearing with a threaded shank, so a push or pull rod can swing freely at the joint. They are widely used in linkages, hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders, steering and suspension setups and machinery that needs angular movement.

A rod end, sometimes called a heim joint, combines a spherical bearing with a threaded shank. The shank screws onto a rod, and the bearing end bolts to a pin or bracket. The joint can swing and tilt, which removes the stress that a rigid joint would pass on to the rod.
Rod ends come with an internal thread (female) or an external thread (male), and in right hand or left hand threads. The bearing inside can be steel on steel or lined with a self lubricating liner.

How do I choose between male and female thread?
Match it to what it connects to. Use a female rod end on a threaded rod. Use a male rod end where it screws into a tapped hole.
Why would I need a left hand thread?
A right hand rod end on one end and a left hand on the other lets you adjust the rod length by turning the rod, without disconnecting either joint.
PTFE lined or steel on steel?
PTFE lined needs no regular lubrication and suits joints that are hard to reach. Steel on steel suits heavy or shock loads where you can grease.
What do I measure to order?
The bore diameter, the thread size and pitch, and whether the thread is male or female. A photo of the old part helps.
