A linear bearing runs along a shaft or a rail. Inside, rows of balls recirculate in tracks, so the carriage can travel back and forth with very little friction and very little play.
There are two main families. Linear ball bushings run on round shafts and are simple and economical. Profile rail guides use a precision rail with a block, and give higher stiffness and load capacity for demanding machines.

What is the difference between a linear bushing and a profile rail?
